The hardware listed below is recommended for new computer purchases. We highly recommend using your local hardware supplier. They are better equipped to handle all your computer, printing, Internet, and networking needs, and will be more competitively priced. We can work closely with them to find the best solution to fit your dealership’s computing needs.

Recommended hardware for a network of ten users or less

  • Server: Pentium III or AMD 1.0 GHZ processor (or higher), Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, or Windows XP Professional, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB hard drive, 10/100 mbps Ethernet network card, 17” color monitor, 10/20 GB tape backup drive (optional), CD-RW or external hard drive.  A backup uninterrupted power supply (UPS).
  • Workstations: Pentium III or AMD 1.0 GHZ processor (or higher), Windows XP Professional, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB hard drive, 10/100 mbps Ethernet network card, 17” color monitor.  A backup uninterrupted power supply (UPS).

Note: If you are a CNH Case New Holland Dealer, Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher is required for CCN Web interface functionality.

Minimum hardware requirements (Ten users or less)

Although DealerWinTM will function on the below specifications, the performance may be unsatisfactory.

  • Server: Pentium or AMD 600 mhz processor, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB hard drive, Windows XP, 15” color monitor.

  • Workstations: Pentium or AMD 600 mhz processor, 128 MB RAM, 10 GB hard drive, Windows XP, 15 “ color monitor.

Microsoft Windows Vista

For a workstation and/or server, DealerWinTM will run on Windows Vista Business (32-Bit).  Charter Software recommends that you consult your EPC provider, manufacturers and suppliers regarding the compatibility of their applications/software under Vista.  If their applications are not certified under Windows Vista Business (32-Bit), we are unable to support any interfaces with those applications.

Many computer manufacturers include Windows Vista Business (32-Bit) operating system when you place the order but also give the ability to receive a licensed downgrade to Windows XP.  You may have the option to order Windows XP to be installed prior to shipment of the computer.  This is a good option if your current EPC and/or supplier's applications are not yet certified under Vista.

Please consult Microsoft's web site for minimum hardware requirements for Windows Vista Business (32-Bit).

More than ten computers on the network

If your network consists of more than ten workstations, either Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008 may be the preferred operating system for your server. The recommended server configuration will need to be adjusted for optimal performance when using one of the network operating systems mentioned above. Please contact your local computer professional for assistance in configuring your network.

Notes: If you plan on running more than just our applications on your system, you may want to increase the memory over what is specified above. We recommend a display resolution of 1024 x 768 (High color 16-bit)

Printers and Peripherals

DealerWinTM was designed to use laser printers. Printers connected to local workstations across the network can be shared. The determining factor of what printer to buy is how many invoices you run daily because sheet capacity varies on the different printers. If you run 100 invoices a day and plan to print three copies of each, you want to choose a printer with a high page per minute output, such as 20 ppm.

DealerWinTM allows parts pick list printing, so you can print parts pick lists on a separate printer and not waste invoice forms. The pick list printer is a very small receipt printer. It prints a pick list of part numbers on an invoice or work order very fast on narrow roll paper. If you plan to print bar codes, you will need to purchase a bar code printer and the bar code interface. DealerWin™ uses a specific bar code printer and labels for printing bar codes.

If you plan to print cash receipts, you will need to purchase a receipt printer and the receipt printer interface. DealerWin™ uses a specific receipt printer for printing cash receipts.

  • Laser Printer (recommended) DealerWin™ was designed to use laser printers. We recommend any reliable brand such as Hewlett-Packard. We do not recommend using multifunction printers.

  • Pick List Printer (recommended) Star SP212 serial printer (Note: Other printers can be used for printing picklists.)

  • Bar Code Label Printer (Purchase of the Bar Code interface is required for use of bar code printer). Eltron LP2824 bar code serial printer (no substitutions allowed) Uses 2.25” X .75” or 1” X 3” bar code labels. Call for specifics.

  • Receipt Printer (Purchase of the Receipt Printing interface is required for use of receipt printer). Star SP212 serial printer (no substitutions allowed)>

  • Cash Drawer (Star SP212 Receipt printer required) MMF ECD 2252140A07

Bar Code Scanners

DealerWinTM allows the use of bar code scanners for part number scanning. Recommended models are either a Metrologic Voyager CG Laser Scanner that is used as a keyboard wedge, or a Metrologic Voyager USB Scanner, depending on your type of connection.
